Ain't nothing like layin down the hammer on a big damn animal to make you feel alive.
— Alexander in "Homecoming"

Alexander Gershwin, also known as Alex (born March 3, 1975),[1] is a Delos Crossing native who currently resides in Anchorage. He has family in town and is there for an overdue visit, having not been home frequently for the last five years.

Appearance[]

Alex is an aging man with grey hair and a somewhat irritated expression. He wears a brown leather jacket with a patch over a blue plaid button-up and a thin white sweater, beige pants, and black shoes.

Personality[]

Alex seems to be an open and generally friendly individual when speaking with Tyler, though he becomes slightly apprehensive of him if he discovers Tyler's relation to Mary-Ann. He has a passion for hunting and fishing, as evident from the contents of his truck. He has no qualms with illegal hunting, contrasting with Tyler's environmentalist nature. He is also a firearms enthusiast. He appreciates Delos Crossing's natural beauty and expresses dislike towards "the city".

Early life[]

Alex grew up in Delos Crossing before moving to Anchorage sometime in his early adulthood. After not visiting for five years, Alex decided to make a return visit to his hometown. He has parents, a younger brother, and many friends still living in Delos, who he describes as never having moved on from the town.

Chapter 1: Homecoming[]

On the MV Sabeteur, Tyler Ronan can strike up conversation with Alex. Interacting with certain objects will also trigger a dialogue leading into their conversation. After discussing their relationship to Delos Crossing and their relatives, Alex asks Tyler his name, to which Tyler can respond with his full name or first name.

Chapter 2: Family Secrets[]

While searching for Tessa Vecchi at Vecchi's General Store, Tyler and Alyson Ronan will come across Alex speaking to Michael Abila about his illegal hunting of a moose. If they interacted on the boat, Alex and Tyler will recognize each other. Tyler can speak with Alex, and if he tries to convince the man about the ethics of illegal hunting, Michael interrupts to tell Alex to finish shopping and move on. Alex leaves the store sometime during the twins' talk with Tom Vecchi.

Chapter 3: Inheritance[]

The next day, Eddy Brown pulls Alex's vehicle over for speeding and detains him at the station under suspicion of a permitting violation and unlawful possession of game. While upstairs, Alyson can eavesdrop on their conversation. During the questioning, Alex insists that his arrest was a misunderstanding and unsuccessfully tries to bribe Eddy with the moose's meat. After a stern lecture, Eddy decides to let Alex off with a warning, under the condition that he must review the Alaska state hunting and fishing regulations.

Relationships[]

Tyler Ronan[]

Alex and Tyler can have somewhat amiable conversations, despite their differing views on the politics of hunting and gun ownership. Though Alex is momentarily thrown-off if he learns about Tyler's past as one of the Ronan children, he shows respect for Tyler's identity afterwards.

Quotes[]

"- Yikes.
- Hey, I heard that.
- Hey man, it's your truck. You do you.
- Same to you. Live and let live. Just a sticker.
"
— Tyler and Alex in "Homecoming"
"Gershwin! The pianist! Folks are always asking if we're related, so I try to head it off at the pass."
— Alex in "Homecoming"
"Hey man, when the Lord opens that kind of door, you walk right through...
- Yeah, that's not exactly legal.
- I've got a bull moose in my truck, and a bull tag in my pocket. Who's gonna know the difference?

Trivia[]

  • Alexander shares a voice actor with Tom Vecchi.
  • Some speculated that the Mad Hunter's true identity was Alexander due to his interest in hunting, behavior on the boat, and being from outside of Delos Crossing. As he and Tom share a voice actor, it is possible that Alexander was an intentional red herring.
  • Alexander states to Eddy that his address is 1712 E 8th Street, Anchorage, Alaska, and his zip code is 99501.
