Overview

Chapter 2: Family Secrets is the second episode of the game Tell Me Why by Dontnod Entertainment. It was released on September 3rd, 2020.

Plot[]

Chapter 2 begins with a flashback from March 1, 2005. Mary-Ann Ronan and the twins had dinner and ice cream. After this Mary-Ann read the twins a new story from the Book of Goblins, in which the Wise Princess buried her crown in the forest and severed her last tie to her former life. Tyler Ronan told Mary-Ann that he didn’t like the story, as it was too depressing. Mary-Ann told Tyler that that was okay, they would only read it this once. The flashback shifts and Tyler has left to go show Mary-Ann his haircut. Alyson Ronan went downstairs to get some ice cream, and heard Tyler yell for her. She ran out, grabbing the scissors as she went.

Alyson found Mary-Ann pointing the gun at Tyler and stabbed her. The flashback ends.

In the present day, Tyler and Alyson continue packing up and cleaning the old house. They decide what to keep, trash, or sell. They reminisce over old times and find a folder of drafts for the Book of Goblins in one cabinet.

While they clean up, the twins look at an old memory over the bond. In this memory the twins encounter the Mad Hunter in the flesh while writing a story about him. As the memory fades, Tyler and Alyson hear a knock at the door. Sam Kansky arrives and offers the twins items for cleaning, as well as a knife for Tyler and a fish for Alyson. Sam tells the twins that he’ll fix the fusebox, and the twins offer to help.

Alyson and Tyler head outside. Tyler and Sam struggle to open the shed door, breaking the door handle. As they try to fix it, Alyson fixes the fusebox and the power to the house is restored. Sam leaves, and as the twins step out of the shed they see a memory of Eddy Brown and Mary-Ann getting into an argument.

Tyler tells Alyson that he remembers the incident a little differently. Alyson must choose to believe her own memory of the incident (Mary-Ann was upset and sad) or Tyler’s (Mary-Ann was angry). No matter which memory Alyson chooses to believe, the twins realize that Eddy was lying about not seeing Mary-Ann for months before her death, and decide to go to the police station to ask him about it.

The twins arrive at the police station. They speak to various people in the station, who tell them that Eddy is in a bad mood. Eddy refuses to speak to them, so Tyler and Alyson decide to look for evidence in the police archives room and Eddy’s office. The officers would notice if Tyler and Alyson just went upstairs, so they decide to cause a distraction. Tyler can either knock over some files, turn off the lights, or pull the fire alarm to give Aly a chandle to get upstairs. From there Tyler goes outside and enters the police station through the upstairs fire exit, which Alyson opens for him. The siblings go into Eddy’s office and find their case file code.

Alyson and Tyler enter the archive room. Tyler looks for their file while Alyson stands guard.

Trivia[]

  • The achievement Remember Strange Vampyr references Dontnod's previous games 'Remember Me', 'Life is Strange', and 'Vampyr.'
    • The 'Life is Strange' poster features a polaroid camera and a blue butterfly, advertising Butterfly Film.  When inspected, Tyler asks Michael what the slogan for this poster was and Michel will tell Tyler it had something to do with time travel and "life being weird."
    • The poster for Red Queen Glassware refers to the main antagonist of 'Vampyr', the Red Queen, and features a glass of red wine, which also looks like blood.
    • The poster for 'Remember Me' features a panda holding a can of Jax. This is reference to Jax the Panda, an electronic toy and companion to the game's protagonist Nilin Cartier-Wells. Jax was also featured on a keychain in 'Life is Strange.'
